    Beard Transplant

Unfortunately, not every man can make that happen on his own. While some men hit the genetic jackpot for body hair, others lean more towards a clean-shaven look without even having to shave.

    What is a Beard and Moustache Transplant?

    This type of hair restoration is gaining more and more popularity and is a cosmetic procedure that is not invasive, does not take much time to be executed, and the recovery period is also quite straight forward.

    Quite simply, it’s an implantation of hair follicles into any bald patches on the face. The hair follicles are removed individually from the back of the scalp as this is the area where the hair is the thickest, then the surgeon places each follicle in the indicated facial area that requires a thicker hair density. This gives instant fullness to the mustache or beard as required. If you are familiar with ordinary hair transplants, then the beard transplant applies the same technique.

    Once the process of implantation of the follicles is completed, the beard should start growing immediately, giving fast and satisfactory results. Usually men who have undergone this procedure are able to shave after just fourteen days, and the new hair can be styled similarly to the already existing hair. However, it’s not unusual to find that the new hairs actually fall out after two to three weeks, and although it seems as though the transplant may have been unsuccessful, it’s actually a normal process and indication of a positive response to transplantation. Once it has fallen out, the hair will start growing back permanently, although it might take three to four months while the papillae need some time to adjust and grow ‘roots’ after the shock of implantation. Full growth can be expected in about six to eight months. The success rate on this procedures is very high and the new hair is a permanent addition; it will have the same texture and characteristics as normal hair and can be styled just like natural hair once settled.

    The Procedure

    DHI Beard and Moustache transplant procedure takes about 3-5 hours to complete, depending on the area covered and the beard density you are looking for.

    • The doctor thoroughly designs the beard or moustache area according to the needs and wishes of the patient, to determine a defined symmetry.
    • The number of the required hairs and the kind of hair follicle required for a natural result and density are counted.
    • The required hair follicles are extracted from the donor area (usually from the scalp).
    • The extracted hair follicles are placed into the beard or moustache area, and thanks to the DHI procedures and techniques performed by our qualified and trained doctors, there is complete control over the angle, depth and direction of the transplanted hair to achieve a nice and natural-looking result.
    1.Is the Beard transplant procedure similar to the Hair transplant procedure?

    Allthough there are some slight differences, a Beard transplant procedure, both in terms of process and technique is quite similar to a Hair transplant which involves extracting donor hair from the scalp. Your specialist chooses the hair, which closely matches your facial hair and then carefully transplants it to the recipient site.

    In cases of those with a balding head, our DHI certified doctor may extract donor hair from chest hair.

    Approximately one week after the moustache or beard transplant, the transplanted area will look very natural. The donor area will heal in about 15 days, after which you will have the same natural appearance that you had before the operation. You are well on your way to facial hair restoration, and any side effects are rare.

    Recovery time and instructions are the same as the normal DHI hair transplant procedures. Typically, you must avoid direct sun exposure on the area for 2 months. You should avoid shaving or trimming the area for one month, and avoid intense friction, water pressure, or hot water on the area for one month as well. You may gently wash and moisturize the face each day, as you would in a normal setting. The transplanted hairs will fall out within the first month (or in the weeks following). Then, after six months, patients should see most of the final result. Depending on the number of follicles transplanted, it may take 12 to 18 months before everything is growing naturally and normally, as if it had always been there.

    For the vast majority of patients, all transplanted hair should lasts a lifetime. In some cases, a small percentage of transplanted hair may be lost as the patient ages.

    Patients who are onsidering a hair transplant in any form should also keep in mind that hair transplants do not have any effect on hormones or the cells and signals that trigger hair growth, they do not treat the cause of thinning hair that eventually leads to hair loss. Unfortunately this means the benefits of a hair transplant can be limited depending on the pattern of your hair loss. If a hair transplant is not supplemented by appropriate medical therapy, there is allways the chance that your hair will continue to thin until it’s lost altogether. This means a hair transplant procedure will need to be repeated for sustained hair coverage, but this can only be done if there is hair available for transplant in your donor area.

    • Finasteride (DHT protector, pill – limited to a percentage of males);
    • Minoxidil (topical, hair growth cycle extender topical);
